Hurricane Ike- Day 2- Thursday 9-11-08

Today we decided to have fun before the storm was to hit. Nick and Matt went to play disc golf while Amanda, Ivy and I went shopping in some little shops in Old Spring. Most of the shops had already been boarded up or were closed. We found one little shop that had a lot of different things in it from collectibles, to jewelry, and purses. We had fun trying on jewelry and talking to the owner. She told us that she was from Seabrook, which is where I teach and so she offered to give us an extra discount. I ended up buying a beautiful ring, which was totally fake, but it’ll be fun to wear.

After our moment of fun, it was time to think about getting to work boarding up the house. The guys went out and helped Larry distribute the boards to the proper windows. They just laid them by the windows on the ground.

We also decided to let Perdi and Snickers (who have to stay in their garage due to Larry being allergic to cats) hang outside in the back yard since it was fenced in. It was funny to watch Snickers try to walk in grass because that was the first time he’d ever been outside. He ended up getting used to it and Perdi and Snickers were soon playing chase around the yard. It was very cute.

Ivy also showed us her wonderful cook skills. Not only does she cook wonderful meals, she cooks using chop sticks. For lunch she made noodles and wontons and she shared it with Amanda and I. It contained seaweed and it actually wasn’t too bad. I also tried bean curry. It had tofu, celery, beans, and other spices. For dinner she cooked a delicious meal! We had chicken with cilantro all over it which gave it a little spice, salad, cream corn, and bread pudding. Yummy!
